Job Title: Student Support Facilitator

Contract Days: 10 months

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree/Master’s Degree Preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to organize and coordinate districtwide programs

Ability to interpret data

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction with emphasis in remedial strategies

Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions

Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Understand the characteristics of a wide range of intellectual disabilities as well as disorders such as autism and traumatic brain injury.
Trained in district positive behavioral strategies used to prevent and deescalate

behavior systems and reinforcement systems

Experience with functional behavior assessment/functional behavior analysis

Ability to use effective instructional strategies and techniques for at risk learners

Experience in the development of Individual Education Plans related to appropriate goals

and benchmarks

Experience in the development and implementation of progress monitoring systems

Knowledge of Special Education and 504 procedures and law

 

Experience:

Five years experience as a classroom teacher. Some leadership or program director experience preferred.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Program Management

  1. Implement procedures to identify and monitor at-risk students at all grade levels districtwide, including review of student data.
  2. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the RTI program and implement changes based on the findings.
  3. Conduct and lead Student Support Team (SST) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of student interventions.
  4. Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel with identification and understanding of students needs for the Response to Intervention program.
  5. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
  6. Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  7. Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support teachers in accomplishing the required response to intervention programs.
  8.       Emphasize early intervention for struggling students
  9. Lead the student support team in a systematic process to successfully close the gap through which students have traditionally fallen.
  10. Analyze student problems, and design interventions powerful enough to effect the desired change.
  11. Oversee all planning and organizational activities of the student support team such as receiving requests, setting meeting times, communicating with other team members, and serving as a contact with the school administrator. 
  12. Facilitate the student support meetings, articulating the agenda, anticipated outcomes, and timelines. 
  13. Responsible for meeting with the requesting teacher to pinpoint the problem, including observing the student if needed, and possibly talking with others who might have additional information to help clarify the presenting problem.

Accountability

  1. Accountable for student improvement, achievement and success as determined by local and state standardized test results.

Consultation

  1. Schedules a planning meeting to review and clarify the selected intervention(s) and help in development of needed materials or procedures with the teacher. Support may include conducting observations using a fidelity checklist, coaching, and providing feedback. 
  2. Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding students in at-risk situations.
  3. Conduct referral meetings with parents for special education testing.
  4. Lead Special Education Professional Learning Community (PLC).

Budget and Inventory

  1. Ensure that programs are cost-effective and that funds are managed wisely.
  2. Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.

Policy, Reports, and Law

  1. Assist with the collection, processing, and distribution of RTI data and interpret this information for guidance, administrative, and instructional purposes.
  2. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  3. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Frequent districtwide travel.
